Australian University Sport is proud to bring the Australian University Championship – 3x3 Basketball, to Australia’s iconic Gold Coast.
Presented by JanSport, the competition marks the 4th phase of a qualifying pathway which sees student-athletes compete for a representative spot at the International University Sports Federation (FISU) 3x3 Basketball World University League (WUL) in Xiamen, China.
Eight male and eight female teams, who qualified through Australian University Sport’s four Regional University Games, will compete at the FISU Oceania 3x3 WUL Qualifying Final at Pacific Fair Shopping Centre from 2-3 August.
The victorious male and female teams will then secure a spot representing Oceania at the 3x3 World University League in China (14-17 September).
Australian University Sport CEO Don Knapp says the international trip to China adds another dimension to the range of multisport events already on offer to Australian university student-athletes.
“A key aim of Australian University Sport is to enable student-athletes to participate in competitive sport at regional, national and international levels through a dual career education and sport pathway,” Mr Knapp said.
“The Australian University Championship – 3x3 Basketball is the perfect way to celebrate intervarsity rivalry and sport participation opportunities by providing student-athletes the opportunity to qualify and represent Oceania at the World University League in China.”
JanSport representative Jacqui Holden said, “We’re excited to continue our involvement with the Australian University Games and look forward to the exciting 3x3 basketball tournament.”
